1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY!
INTERNSHIP AND JOB
CHRISTMAS 2010
Christmas time is such a wonderful time. It is a time when so many people’s thoughts and hearts are turned to the Savior in celebration of His birth. Every year the Mesa Temple puts up lights and displays to show the birth of the Savior. They have musical concerts to invite the spirit. Living two blocks from the temple meant that we got to see the lights every night on our way home. We also went to walk around the temple grounds several times with my family and Mike’s family.
This Christmas we went up to Utah to spend time with my family. Four of my sisters were planning on spending Christmas in Utah so we had plenty of company. We watched the weather for our drive up there to make sure that we wouldn’t get caught in a snow storm. The predicted weather said that there was going to be a little rain at the higher elevations but later in the afternoon/evening. Needless to say, the weather in Utah is very unpredictable. We got rain, that turned to snow, that was even icy in areas. I drove since Mike had never driven in snow before. He sat in the passenger seat looking out the windows and making comments about the amazing snow. It was like a little kid who had seen snow for the first time. He had been in snow before but not as much as we drove through.
While in Utah, we went to a BYU basketball game with my mom and two sisters. We also went to see an art display of the Savior by Carl Bloch. It was very moving and made the Christmas spirit so strong. We also spent time playing games, watching movies, and being permanently wrapped up in a blanket because it was so cold! The snow that was there when we got to Utah slowly melted away in a couple of days. We watched the weather again before we left to drive back to Arizona. There was a snow storm that was scheduled to hit in the late afternoon/evening. Again, needless to say, Utah weather is unpredictable. We woke up to find 4” of snow already on the ground and more coming down with no let up. We decided to delay our departure for a day and spent that day playing in the snow and sledding. I used that day to teach Mike how to drive in the snow. The next day the slushy snow had turned to ice. Mike practiced his driving abilities in the snow. It took us 13 hours to get home instead of 10. We both enjoyed our time in Utah and with the snow, but we were both so glad to get back to Arizona and no snow.
